Crafted from our finest Pyrenees fruit, the 2009 Taltarni Reserve follows a long tradition of great Taltarni reds whilst acknowledging the uniquely Australian history of shiraz cabernet blends. It blends
modern Australian winemaking techniques with timeless French winemaking practices; perfectly capturing the philosophy of winemaking at Taltarni.
Combining the conditions of a warm winter, an early onset of spring and a dry, warm summer, the 2009 vintage in the Pyrenees produced grapes with rich, ripe fruit flavours and rugged tannins. Select individual batches of grapes were destemmed and crushed into small fermenters. Fermented on skins for up to 14 days, the wine was then traditionally basket‐pressed directly to new French oak barriques.
After malolactic fermentation, the wines were racked, and each barrel was judged on its own merits resulting in only the exceptional barrels making it into the final blend.
Winemaker Comments
A rich brick‐red colour with a deep hue, this wine shows the complexity of both varieties, with lovely blackberry, spiced plum and chocolate mocha coming through on the nose. Silky tannins and a balanced palate, with great length, is complemented by hints of
toasty cigar box from the oak. This wine displays the complexity for which Taltarni is known. This beautifully structured wine will drink well now or can cellar for up to 10 years.
As the Reserve has more complexity and drive, it can stand up to a spice driven or fattier dishes, such as braised duck or peppered steak.
