Harvest/Winemaking
A dry winter and cool ripening season produced a low yield of exceptionally high-quality fruit. As such, premium estate shiraz parcels were harvested at site-specific times across six weeks, allowing for true varietal expression and depth of the old-vine, cool-climate fruit. Small batch ferments of whole berries, which were submerged and cap-fermented, gave a richness and complexity that delivers a silky and balanced wine. The addition of mourèvdre is a luxury few wineries have, and adds to the wine in so many ways because of its spice and earthy nature.
Winemaker Comments
With a deep red and violet hue, the 2014 Estate Shiraz emanates aromas of Sichuan pepper, white spices and cherry chocolate. The intense aroma is balanced perfectly with a medium-bodied wine that is equally rich in flavour. The ripe cherry and sweet plum flavours complement the persistent dusty tannins, which accentuate the lingering finish that is driven by spice and pepper.
