This wine is very appealing to drink now, but built to
cellar with confidence for at least ten years.
Taltarni Pyrenees Shiraz was first made in 1977. Taltarni Pyrenees Shiraz exemplifies the Pyrenees regional benchmark style, sourced from mature and carefully nurtured shiraz vines from Taltarni’s Estate. A selection of fruit for this wine is from an old Victorian shiraz clone planted in 1864.
Taltarni’s Pyrenees Shiraz is an exquisite wine crafted using Taltarni’s finest winemaking methods. Small wine parcels are cool fermented to retain fresh fruit characters, with the wine undergoing extended skin contact to enhance the complexity of the wine and soften tannins. 10% of the wine undergoes malolactic
fermentation in barrel, integrating subtle oak, cedar and spice characteristics. The wine then matures about 18 months in 60% new oak, mainly French barriques, with about 10% in American oak.
Winemaker Comments
A vibrant plum red colour, this wine has an elegant nose of spice, pepper and blackberries typical of shiraz from this region. These flavours continue on the long, full palate, where they are complemented by firm, fine tannins and spicy French oak characters. This wine is very appealing to drink now, but built to
cellar with confidence for at least ten years.
