Taltarni Pyrenees Shiraz was first made in 1977. Taltarni
Pyrenees Shiraz exemplifies the Pyrenees regional benchmark
style, sourced from mature and carefully nurtured Shiraz vines
from Taltarni’s estate. A selection of fruit for this wine is from an
old Victorian Shiraz clone planted in 1864.
1985 was a warm drought year in the Pyrenees, producing robust,
rich red grapes. The red wines from this year are good, with dark
fruit and ripe tannins. The fruit weight should allow them to age
gracefully.
Taltarni’s 1985 Pyrenees Shiraz was fermented in small parcels,
with extended skin contact to enhance the tannin extraction and
structure. The wine was pressed, underwent malolactic
fermentation and was aged in French barriques for two years.
Winemaker Comments
This wine is showing excellent complexity with rich chocolate
note and hints of leather, but is also still showing primary fruit
characters of plum and blackberries. The palate is structured and
long, with tannins which are still rich and full.
