Crafted from our finest Pyrenees fruit, the 2008 Taltarni Reserve
follows a long tradition of great Taltarni reds whilst acknowledging the uniquely Australian history of Shiraz Cabernet blends. It also blends modern Australian winemaking techniques with traditional,
timeless French winemaking practices; perfectly capturing the philosophy of winemaking at Taltarni.
2008 was a dry, warm vintage in the Pyrenees with low rainfall
throughout the growing season. This produced grapes with rich, ripe fruit flavours and tannins. After harvest, the separate batches of
grapes were destemmed and crushed to a range of fermenters. The wines were fermented on skins for 14—20 days then basket pressed directly to new French oak barriques. After malolactic fermentation the wines were racked, blended then returned to barrels for 20 months prior to bottling.
Winemaker Comments
A rich brick‐red colour, this wine shows the complexity of both
varieties with lovely blackberry, plum and chocolate mocha coming through on the nose. Silky tannins and a balanced palate with great
length is complimented by hints of toasty cigar box from the oak. This wine displays the complexity Taltarni is known for, with this
beautifully structured wine and will drink well now or can cellar for up to 10 years.

'Made during a prolonged drought, and in a hot vintage, and has to be admired for surmounting that dual challenge. It has retained depth to the good colour; black fruits, savoury tannins, and a contrasting mix of cedar and mocha, make for a very complex wine.'
